The Third Way: A new way to teach and learn It's time for a radical change in teaching methods and curricula. Third Way methods facilitate powerful learning in non-traditional settings.

The Third Way Programs and Curriculum

The following curriculum packages are designed to be used with training in Third Way teaching methods.

The Art of Tutoring:
This is the heart of Third Way programming – a revolutionary look at teaching methods. The first skill taught is called “Conversational Teaching” and shows tutors how to use their own talk to diffuse anxiety, help students focus, and teach increasingly complex trains of thought. These methods have been taught to parents and tutors of all education levels, to ESL teachers, and to classroom teachers. You do not have to speak fluent English to be able to use these methods.

Kitchen Table Math/Picnic Table Math:
Both of these programs use games and game like activities to teach a physical understanding of numbers, of our base ten system, problem solving strategies, and the ability to think with numbers. A good supplement to homework assistance programs, and summer math tutoring. Can be used by parents to make sure children really understand math rather than doing it by rote. Comes with a simple assessment tool.

Baby Logic:
A parent implemented pre school program that can be used by parents of all educational levels, and implemented in languages other than English. The focus is on developing both parent and child skills.

Language From the Inside Out;
Reading comprehension, writing, and speaking tools, for young people and adults. A good way to meet the needs of intermediate and advanced level ESL students who are preparing for the job market or college.

Self Help ESL
This course was developed to meet the needs of teachers who have to teach adults of all skill levels ESL. It was first used around picnic tables and in church basements with migrant workers and is now also being used with immigrant parents and young people in a variety of situations.
